[Feature Update] ๐ New Notifications system that gives you more control
In App - Inbox Management, Notification Selection, Better Design
Hey it's Mica,
Earlier this summer, we previewed the new notification system. Now itโs ready for prime time.
Each admin user has full control and visibility of their notifications, allowing them to focus on what's important to them without excess noise.
Manage notifications from an inbox
Configure which notifications you receive (+ new ones available)
Receive batch summary emails instead of a single email per notification
The new notification system is part of how we help your referral system run in the background. Your referral system does the work on its own, and the notifications tap you on the shoulder when something needs your attention.
Let's dive in. ๐๐

Rolling out to all accounts over the next few weeks. Some accounts already have it. If you don't see the bell yet, it's coming soon.
๐ What's new (and why it's better)?
The old notification system was a fire hose. Every event sent its own email, everyone on your team got the same set, and there was no way to say "yes to this one, no to that one." It could be a lot. So most people either ignored their notifications or turned them off entirely.
The new notification system fixes this by giving each user control over when they get notified.
Here's what changed.
New Notifications | Old Notifications | |
|---|---|---|
Configuration | Each user controls what they see and how they see it (Email, In App, or Both) | One list for the whole account (either on or off) |
Management | Inbox with management features (filters, archiving, mark unread, etc) | None |
Who receives them | Referral Rock users | Any email address you type in |
Notification Volume | Grouped, on a schedule set per notification | One email per event (always) |
Program control | Per program, respecting each user's access | All programs or none |
Pending and Failed Rewards notifications | Available | Not Available |
Member Disabled notifications | Available | Not Available |
Completed Import notifications | Available | Not Available |
๐ฅ See everything happening in one place
Almost every software nowadays has an inbox. This pattern works: open it, see what's important, take action or clear it, move on.
Now your referral program does too.
The inbox gives you a high-level overview of recent activity in your referral program without the noise. Nothing disappears while you aren't looking. Notifications sit and wait, so you check them on your schedule instead of catching things live.
Filter by program - find what you're looking for
Click in to take action - each notification has a link with more details
Archive once handled - individually or all at once
Keep things unread - running list of what still needs attention
Check the archive - full history sorted by date

โ๏ธ Choose your notifications and how you get them
Your notifications should look nothing like your teammate's. The finance team is interested in pending rewards, low funds, and failed payments. The program managers care about member activation and new referrals.
Every notification has two switches: whether you get it, and where it lands.
Your settings are yours - they're tied to your user, not to the account. A teammate turning off reward notifications doesn't turn off yours.
Program access is respected - If someone on your team only has access to one program, that is the only program they'll see
Configure how you receive notifications - by email, in-app, or both

๐ New notification types and better email design
We also added several more notification types and made some quality-of-life improvements to how notifications work.
New notification types
Weโve added 3 new notifications based on customer feedback:
Reward Added - any time there is a pending reward (great for finance teams responsible for reward payment).
Member Email Blocked - when a memberโs email bounces, we disable them to protect your sending reputation. Now youโll get notified so you can review it.
Bulk import Complete - sometimes imports can take a while if there are a lot of records. Now youโll get emails when the import is ready.
See all available notifications in our support article.
Notifications look better and are easier to read
Every notification is grouped based on similar notifications. This means youโll receive a summary of the notifications instead of a single email for every notification (less noise in your email inbox).
Not only that, but the emails look better than the old system.
